What is the Maplewood Access Road Extension?
The Maplewood Access Road Extension project is part of the overall Downtown Cary Strategic Plan to improve and enhance the connectivity, mobility, and parking systems in the Downtown area. The extension project is intended to provide additional access to the Metra Station from Cary-Algonquin Road.
Currently to access the Metra Station and the parking north of Main Street, there is one access point near the railroad tracks and a second access point at High Road which provides the only exit for the area. This project proposes to improve mobility to enhance the quality of life for the area. Further, it can provide greater access for pedestrian and bicyclists to the Downtown area. The new roadway would also support the future redevelopment of the former Maplewood Elementary School property. The school property represents a significant development opportunity within Downtown Cary and both School District 26 and the Village of Cary continue to work toward a common goal of realizing a successful redevelopment plan that benefits the entire community.
